       NS =  N Scavenger                                                 E = Excellent

       SB = Soil Builder                                                    VG = Very Good

       EC = Erosion Control                                             G = Good

       WI = Increased Water Infiltration                            F = Fair

       QG = Quick Growth

       RC = Reduces Compaction

       Annual Ryegrass - Reduces soy cyst nematode, non alleopathic, decomposes rapidly

       Austrian Winter Peas - Some plants may survive witner, good N production, mix with annual

                                                  ryegrass

       Cereal Rye - Good choice for late seeding, rapid spring growth, alleopathic to corn

       Cow Peas - Plant after wheat, light frost will kill, potential to lose some of the N produced

       Crimson Clover - Good early spring N production, can winter kill some years, more research

                                        needed

       Hairy Vetch - Varietal differences in hardiness, 30% hard seed not uncommon, new plants will

                              emerge for several years

       Oilseed Radish - for optimum growth 60 day prior to frost, will winter kill, leaves ground bare in

                                       spring

       Persian Clover - Will tolerate shading, best clover to aerial seed in standing crop

       Rape - Similar to radish, aids in control of some nematodes

       Sub Clover - Low growing, seeds underground, dies in winter reseeds in spring
